Hacks for Multiplication Tables 12 to 19

1. Use “Break & Distribute” Method (Always Works)

Split the multiplier into 10 + (units)
Multiply separately, then add.

Example:

14 × 7 = (10 × 7) + (4 × 7) = 70 + 28 = 98

2. For 12 to 15: Use “Multiply by 10 + Multiply by remainder”

12 = 10 + 2
Multiply by 10, then add double.
E.g., 12 × 8 = 80 + 16 = 96
13 = 10 + 3
Multiply by 10, then add triple.
E.g., 13 × 6 = 60 + 18 = 78
14 = 10 + 4
Multiply by 10, then add quadruple.
E.g., 14 × 5 = 50 + 20 = 70
15 = 10 + 5
Multiply by 10, then add half of the number multiplied by 10. Or multiply by 30 and divide by 2.
E.g., 15 × 4 = 40 + 20 = 60

3. For 16 to 19: Use “Multiply by 10 + Multiply by remainder” or “Double + Add” tricks

16 = 10 + 6
Multiply by 10, then add 6 times.
E.g., 16 × 3 = 30 + 18 = 48
Or Double the number, then multiply by 8 (since 16 = 2 × 8).
E.g., 16 × 7 = (7 × 2) × 8 = 14 × 8 = 112
17 = 10 + 7
Multiply by 10, then add 7 times.
E.g., 17 × 4 = 40 + 28 = 68
18 = 10 + 8
Multiply by 10, then add 8 times.
E.g., 18 × 5 = 50 + 40 = 90
Or Multiply by 20, then subtract the number multiplied by 2
E.g., 18 × 6 = (20 × 6) – (2 × 6) = 120 – 12 = 108
19 = 20 – 1
Multiply by 20, then subtract the number.
E.g., 19 × 7 = (20 × 7) – 7 = 140 – 7 = 133
